Post Natal Depression

Having a baby is a time of huge change and it is common to feel many different emotions. Postnatal Depression affects 10 to 15 in every 100 women having a baby.

The symptoms are similar to those in general depression, for example feeling low, lacking energy and irritability. If these problems have persisted for more than several weeks then you may have postnatal depression.

Depending on the severity you may struggle to look after yourself and your baby. You may find everyday tasks difficult to manage.

It is common to feel guilty for feeling this way as so often the expectation is to be happy.

It can be very helpful to talk through and understand these feelings alongside support from your GP and health visitor.
